SWEETWOODS project brings together 9 European innovation oriented partners.

Industry consortium is led by Fibenol OÜ.

Fibenol OÜ is a bio-based industry company that grew out from Graanul Invest Group. The company is headquartered in Tallinn, Estonia.

The main fields of activities of Fibenol are the innovative technologies based processing of woody biomass into high purity lignin, C5 sugars, C6 sugars or microcrystalline cellulose to be used for novel end-use applications. Within SWEETWOODS project Sweetwater Energy pre-treatment technology platform is established and operated by Fibenol. Fibenol is the leading partner in SWEETWOODS project.

Global Bioenergies

Global Bioenergies is one of the few companies worldwide, and the only one in Europe, that is developing a process to convert renewable resources into hydrocarbons through fermentation. The Company initially focused its efforts on the production of isobutene, one of the most important petrochemical building blocks that can be converted into fuels, plastics, organic glass and elastomers. Global Bioenergies continues to improve the performance of its process, to operate its demo plant in Germany, and to prepare the first full-scale plant through a joint venture with Cristal Union, named IBN-One.

As the inventors of flexible foam for equipment insulation and a leading provider of engineered foams, Armacell develops innovative and safe thermal, acoustic and mechanical solutions that create sustainable value for its customers. Armacell’s products significantly contribute to global energy efficiency making a difference around the world every day.

With 3,000 employees and 27 production plants in 17 countries, the company operates two main businesses, Advanced Insulation and Engineered Foams, and generated net sales of EUR 603 million and adjusted EBITDA of EUR 102 million in 2017.

Armacell focuses on insulation materials for technical equipment, high-performance foams for high-tech and lightweight applications and next generation aerogel blanket technology.

TECNARO GmbH develops, produces and markets bio-based and biodegradable materials. The business is focused on three different material families: Liquid Wood ARBOFORM®, Wood Plastic Composites ARBOFILL® and Biopolymer Compound ARBOBLEND®. ARBOFORM® and ARBOBLEND® consist of biopolymers like the wood constituent lignin and/or other biopolymers. ARBOFILL® is made from petrochemical polymers reinforced with natural fibers like hemp, flax or wood.

TECNARO won several awards for innovation, sustainability and in the category supplier: Green Brand Germany 2013, Dieselmedaille 2011, European Inventor Award 2010, Deutscher Industriepreis (German Industry Award) 2009, Werkbund label 2008, VR Innovationspreis (Innovation Award VR Bank) 2007, Golden Euromold Award.

MetGen’s mission is to empower industries to get more value out of lignocellulosic biomass. MetGen’s core competencies lie in protein engineering, microbiology and a technology platform – ENZINE® – capable of producing new and novel enzymes in industry-leading speed: less than 6 months from idea to industrial supply.

MetGen’s enzymes – MetZymes® – are industrial, highly-active, natural catalysts that accelerate chemical reactions. MetZyme® are designed to survive in harsh industrial environments which enables novel applications and combination with other enzymes in complex value-chains. MetGen aims to significantly contribute to economics and sustainability of process industries such as pulp & paper, biofuels, and biochemicals.

Recticel N.V.
